Interesting News

New Jersey Entrepreneur to Set Aerial Round-the-World Record from Morristown Airport

Jared Isaacman, the 25 year old founder and CEO of United Bank Card, Inc. announced that he intends to raise money and awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey by setting a new world record for circumnavigating the globe in a Cessna Citation Mustang, Model 510.  Isaacman, has set the date of March 28th to make his attempt and spectators will be able to track his progress online via www.speedaroundtheworld.com

Isaacman will be taking off from and returning to Morristown Municipal Airport in Morristown, New Jersey. He intends to complete the journey of 36,770 kilometers in less than 80 hours.  The world record for aerial circumnavigation by a light jet is currently set at 82 hours and Isaacman will make a donation of $5,000.00 for every hour he comes in under that time.  Isaacman will also match 100% of all donations made on the www.speedaroundtheworld.com website up to $10,000.

Visitors to www.speedaroundtheworld.com can view background information on Isaacman and can support him in this philanthropic effort by making donations of their own to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey.  The site will also be linked to an on-board tracking system that will transmit Isaacman’s location every 30 minutes, enabling supporters to take a virtual flight for the record alongside him.

What Great News to Start our NEW YEAR off, One of our "Young Eagles" has started Flight training at Ocean Aire, R.J. Miller Airpark.

John Joseph Berroa

       Johnny in his PRE-PILOT Days

John (he likes to be called John now instead of Johnny, although I sometimes call him Johnny out of habit, hehehehe) loves flying.  It's in his blood.  I have two sons, David, age 18, who recently bought himself a motorcycle, and John, age 16. (His b.d. is Dec. 26, 1991).

John has many flight programs, including two versions of Flight Simulator, which he has played faithfully  since he was about 13.  He would call me into his room, where he has his computer, and he would say, "Mom, watch me land this plane, or watch me take off!"  He knows most of the airports like the back of his hand.  This past November, when we went to CA, we had to make a special side trip to visit Van Nuys Airport, where he took pictures with his Nikon DSLR.  John's first airplane ride was on a Continental jet to California in 2003, where after we landed, I asked the Captain if John could see the cockpit.  The Captain was very cordial and showed John the cockpit, and encouraged him to seek flying as a career.  John did well on his first flight...no air sickness.  He sat by the window and snapped pictures of the clouds.  John had always had a fondness for meteorology, too.

His "big break" came one day while my husband and I were walking around Pirates Day in Barnegat, where we saw a table being presided over by Mr. Stofko.  My husband struck up a conversation with Mr. Stofko, one thing led to another, and Mr. Stofko told us about the Young Eagles and that John could get a free demo ride at Miller Airpark.  John's ears pricked up like a puppy.  He was more than interested.  We kept in touch with Mr. Stofko, got the date of the flight expo, and went.  John loved it!  So much so, that the following year we were there at Miller with the Young Eagles again, and he got two rides that year!  One memorable flight was with Walter, who, knowing that John loved flying so much, went the extra mile to show John how to fly and let him take the controls, and even spent some extra time with him!  John was hooked!  He knew then that he would take lessons as soon as he could.  That led to his getting a part time job to pay for the flight lessons.  At the age of 15, his job options were limited, but he was lucky to secure a great job at the Barnegat Library.

After about six months, he began his flight lessons in a Cessna 152 at Ocean Aire.  His flight instructor is Nick Chey, and they have a great rapport.  He has had 3 lessons and has already taken off and landed.  Nick says he is a "natural."  John's goals are to get his private pilot license this coming December when he turns 17, go on to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in either Florida or Arizona after he graduates high school, and hopefully, get a job after graduation flying jets with the big airlines, like Continental.

These Loving words are from John's dear Mother Joanne Berroa

Thank You!
